Privacy policy

Maps.aero is operated by Rivercode LLC. This policy covers maps.aero, metar.maps.aero and cabin.maps.aero, including optional accounts used to save your map preferences.

Using the maps

You can use the maps without creating an account. Your browser stores preferences such as display settings and saved aircraft. Requests to our services process the information needed to provide maps, airport weather and aircraft information, including airport codes or aircraft registrations you select. Looking up an aircraft may also request collection of publicly available aircraft tracking information.

Optional sign-in

We use Microsoft Entra External ID to manage sign-in. You can sign in with an email one-time code or, when available, Google. The identity service processes your email address, an account identifier and basic profile information supplied by your sign-in provider. Maps.aero uses a stable account identifier to associate your saved settings with your account and may display your name.

Maps.aero does not receive your Google password. Google sign-in is used to identify you; it does not request access to your Gmail messages, contacts, calendar or Google Drive files.

Saved settings

When signed in, we store selected preferences in Microsoft Azure so you can restore them in another browser. These include your home airport, units and time display, map themes and colors, weather and traffic layers, display effects, saved aircraft and Cabin ticker preferences.

Settings synchronization excludes uploaded logos, device geolocation, temporary map position and fullscreen state. The preferences store uses an identifier derived from your identity provider and account ID, rather than your email address. Saving an aircraft does not grant access to private aircraft data.

Cookies and browser storage

We use secure cookies to maintain sign-in and protect the login process. Browser storage retains local map preferences. Clearing browser data removes the local copy but does not delete settings already saved to your account. Signing out of one Maps.aero site ends that site's session; it may not sign you out of Microsoft or Google.

Analytics and service providers

The sites use Google Analytics to understand usage and improve the service. Analytics can process browser and device information, pages visited, interactions and cookie-based identifiers. Hosting, security and identity services also process technical request and sign-in information, such as IP addresses, timestamps and errors.

We use Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Entra to host the service, authenticate users and store preferences. Google processes Google sign-ins and analytics. Map imagery, maps and aviation-data providers may receive technical request information when your browser loads their services. Their processing is governed by their own privacy policies, and services may process data outside your country.

We use account information to provide sign-in, restore your preferences, respond to support requests and protect the service. We do not sell account information or use Google sign-in data for targeted advertising. We may disclose information when required by law or necessary to address abuse or security incidents.

Retention and your choices

We retain your account and saved preferences while needed to provide your account, unless you request deletion. Operational and security logs are retained under the applicable service configurations. Some information may remain temporarily in backups or be retained when required by law or for security.

To request access, correction or deletion of your account information and saved preferences, contact info@rivercode.net. We may need to verify that you control the account. Removing Maps.aero access in your Google account stops that authorization but does not by itself delete your Maps.aero settings. You can also clear local site data through your browser settings.
